About this Book Reading Level: Ages 8-12 From the Publisher "It's O.K. To Be Different" has a very appealing story and main character - ZEBIE, a newborn zebra - who is born with no stripes. Because zebras are born with and identified by their stripes, as Zebie grows he is unhappy about his stripelessness. Compounding his unhappiness, Zebie's playmates, Zill and Zim, tease him about his stripelessness. Teal has very skillfully and thoughtfully named the characters in her book. Zebie, his family and friends each have a name beginning with the letter "Z." During book reading events, Teal keeps the children's attention because of the charming and thought provoking storyline. The children also enjoy the wonderful artwork that brings life to Zebie and the other zebra characters. [Illustrations by Richmond Chaisiri]
