HOUSTON,
Tex. -- Willie and Gwen Richardson, co-founders of Cushcity.com,
are featured in the June issue of Ebony magazine as "Black Pioneers in the
High-Tech World." Cushcity.com has the worlds largest selection of
African-American products and is the most highly trafficked black e-commerce site on the
Internet. The Richardsons are highlighted for being "visionaries" in cyberspace, along with a number of other entrepreneurs, scientists, celebrities and professors. "It is certainly an honor to be recognized by a publication like Ebony, which has long been a media institution for African Americans," said Willie A. Richardson, President of Cushcity.com, which is based in Houston, Tex. "We are pleased to be included among other cyberspace innovators." Cushcity.com was launched in December 1998 and initially sold African-American books and videos. It has since expanded its product lines to include toys, games, dolls, software, calendars, greeting cards, stationery items, apparel, collectibles and Black Greek products. Additional product lines are slated for this summer and fall. Cushcity.com received an award for Internet innovation last month at MOBE-IT, the twice-annual Internet and Technology symposium series which recognizes African-Americans who have made strides on the Internet. Other award recipients have included Omar Wasow, Executive Director of BlackPlanet.com; Dwayne Walker, CEO of ShopNow.com; and Darien Dash, CEO of DME Interactive Holdings.
